Is India Really Developing ?

The constitution of India came into force on 26th January 1950.In Part IV of the Indian constitution the directive principle of state policy has been provided. These directive principles set out objectives which the state has to take up in the governance of the country.

Article 37 of Indian constitution provides that it is the duty of the state to apply these principles while making laws. One of these directive principles in article 38(2) states that the State shall in particular strives to minimize the inequality of income among the peoples. The nation is developing day by day. Many countries of the world are projecting India as the next super power nation, But the real scenario is horrible. The Per capita Income of the country is Rs. 33588 (in real terms) on the other hand there are about 360 million people in India who are living below the poverty line. Is the country really growing? Is this figure of per capita income is fair? The government has easily spend 70000 crore Rupees in organizing commonwealth games but they feel it difficult to feed 36 crore poor peoples of the country.

The government thinks it better to let the 1 lakh tonne of wheat be spoiled rather than distributing it among the poor peoples of the country. They can easily digest the 2G spectrum scam of Rs. 1 lakh crore but it is difficult for them to accept the fact that the farmers are committing suicide due to poverty. Here the directive principles are seems to be defeated.

The government is busy in constructing miles of highways on the name of development but they don’t bother about the basic problems of the country like poverty, inflation, electricity etc. If the government has spend these 70000 crore rupees, which was spent in commonwealth, in any solar power project or wind power project, our farmers will get sufficient electricity. The government proudly declares the increase in National income and gross domestic product but they are not serious about the heavy inflation faced by the middle class peoples of the country. The growth of certain peoples of the country is deemed as the growth of whole country. The country is growing only in papers and these figures of growth issued by the government are far away from the reality.

The preamble of Indian constitution says that purpose of the constitution is to secure economic and political justice to all the citizens. But today’s condition of the country is very different from this. After the case of corporate lobbying it is clear that the participation of common man of Indian in the governance of the country is very negligible. Their participation is limited to Voting in election only. The economic as well as political power is concentrated only in few hands. These Powerful peoples are not concerned about the development of nation they are just bothered about the turnover of their business.

The preamble of constitution states that the India is a democratic republic. Is the country really a democratic Republic? After 63 years of independence the condition of common people is same as it was earlier at the time of foreign rule. Previous to independence the common peoples are ruled by the British officers and now this fraternity of common man is ruled by the economically powerful class. The common man is still struggling for their survival and the rich class of the country is busy in throwing money in IPL. One of the American Businessman has donated his 99% wealth for charity and on the other hand one of the Indian business tycoon has constructed a house of 27 floors amounting about Rs.6 billion for his family consisting of only 5 members.

The concept of corporate social responsibility is limited only to the Annual report of the company and is used only to increase number of pages of annual report. The Indian constitution has provided the citizens a stick of VOTE to control the government. The electors can use their voting power to elect the suitable candidate for their representation. But many candidates nominated by the political parties are having poor academic record and are gold medalist criminals. In elections, no candidate has got 50% votes of the total voting. They just won because the votes are scattered between numbers of candidates.

The government is not having absolute majority of the citizens. It is formed by the Pre or Post election alliance of many small and big political parties who time to time threats the government of withdrawing their support in order to accept their demands. Due to this JUGAAD government many unsuitable politicians are handling important ministries of government. We are the citizens of the country and we are also responsible for these conditions. We have to decide where we want to lead our country before it is too late and the conditions like Egypt will come into force.
