Obtain Driving Licence: Puducherry
I. Procedure (To obtain a Learner's Licence)
The persons who intend to get a Learner's Licence must apply in Form 2 along with the documents mentioned below with a fee of Rs.15. An acknowledgement token will be issued. The applicant will have to be appear for a preliminary test after that.
Test
Preliminary written test will be conducted in this department from 09.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. after every 30 minutes. The learners test is conducted for a period of 20 minutes and it has 10 multiple objective type questions. The minimum marks to qualify is 6 out of 10. The objective type questions will test the knowledge in traffic signs, traffic rules and regulation, the result of the test will be exhibited in the notice-board next day and successful candidates can get the Learners? Licence by producing the token issued to them.
Eligibility:
- For driving motorcycle without gear, a candidate must have completed 16 years.
- For other vehicles, they must have completed 18 years.
- For Transport vehicles driving they should have completed 20 years.
- After 30 days of obtaining Learners? Licence, they can apply for permanent Driving Licence.
- Preliminary test is exempted if he is already a holder of a Learner?s Licence or possesses a permanent licence but they will have to appear before the concerned Authority with proof of documents (original).
- Medical Certificate is necessary in case of obtaining the LLR for transport vehicles such as Bus, Lorry and Taxi etc., Medical Certificate for LLR is not necessary in case of other category of vehicles.
- Parent of Guardian should sign before the Licencing Authority in case of the applicant applying for Learner?s Licence has not completed 18 years of age but completed 16 years of age, for giving their consent.
Necessary Documents (FORM 2)
- Recent passport size photograph ? 1 (Apart from one affixed in application)
- Residence proof (Duly attested Xerox copy /true copy)
- Age proof (Birth Certificate/School Certificate/Collage Certificate
- Medical Fitness Certificate in Form 1 and 1A (In case of Transport vehicle)
Note: Any one of the below mentioned documents should be produced towards residence proof
- Ration Card
- Election Identity card/Extract of Electoral Roll
- Passport
- Electricity Bill/Telephone Bill
- Pay Slip issued by Central / State Government
- House Tax Receipt
- Study Certificate issued by the institution
II. Procedure (To obtain a Driving Licence)
The persons who intend to get a Permanent Driving Licence should apply in FORM 4, 30 days after getting the Learner?s Licence and pay fees amounting to Rs. 250/- for the same. A token will be issued as acknowledgement.
Test
Driving test will be conducted the day after submitting the FORM 4. The vehicle brought for test should exhibit ?L? Broad (At both front and back sides of the vehicle). They can get Driving Licence by producing the token issued to them while applying in FORM 4.
Necessary Documents (Form 4)
- Valid LLR
- Recent stamp size photograph -2 Nos. (Apart from one affixed in the Form)
- Form 5 (In case of Transport vehicles only)
Inclusion of additional Category of Vehicles
If a person wants to add categories after getting a driving licence, for e.g. a person having two wheeler licence wants to have licence for car LMV, he has to get LLR and apply in form 8 and enclosing a valid LLR. Two stamp sized photos and a driving licence shall be enclosed. A fee amounting to Rs. 250/- has to be paid for additional endorsement.
Renewal of Driving Licence
For renewal of Driving licence, the applicant shall apply in FORM 9, along with Medical Certificate (FORM 1 and FORM 1(a)), two stamp sized photos and a Driving Licence.
A fee of Rs.100/- has to be paid for the licence which is valid at the time of applying for renewal (for this purpose, a grace period of 30 days may be calculated after the expiry period of Driving Licence). For belated renewal of license, a sum of Rs.50/- has to be paid as penalty for every calendar year to a maximum of 5 years.
Duplicate Driving Licence
The applicant may get a duplicate Driving Licence by applying in FORM LLD. For obtaining a duplicate Driving Licence, two passport size photos have to be enclosed along with two specimen signatures. If the old licence is destroyed, damaged or defaced, the licence has to be surrendered. In case of loss or theft, a non-traceable certificate is issued by an officer of the Police Department, not below the rank of Station House Officer (S.I) shall be enclosed. A fee of Rs.200/ has to be paid to acquire a Driving Licence.
