Is acupuncturist a doctor ?

Also M.D in Acupuncture , M.D ( Acu)  is it valid and recognised by government of India ?. Are they allowed to add DR. in front of their names?.

Acupuncture is a method of encouraging the body to promote natural healing and to improve functioning. This is done by inserting needles and applying heat or electrical stimulation at very precise acupuncture points.

Unless he has done Doctor of Medicine in Accupuncture (MD ACU),which is a 1 yr PG course conducted by the Indian Board of Alternative Medicines,they cannot use the tag Doctor.Till then they are regarded only as Technical personnel in accupunture.

acupuncture coures including md (acu) can be done by anyone who posess only a higher secondary degree and some institutes offering such courses are listed as fake university by ugc.inspite of that there is no body to regularisse such kind of alternative medicine courses and so such people call themselves as doctors.

M.D Acu - itself means Diploma in Acupuncture and Doctor of medicine.

So what kind of action need to be taken on such person?

If you are aggrieved by their misbehavior or wrong acts, you may lodge a police complaint under the provisions of criminal law. 

What you have reproduced in Tamil itself says that acupuncturists cannot prefix Doctor before their names.
