Sale deed

Hi,

A sale deed is executed in the year 1967 by my grandfather and is also registered. my grandfather passed away in the year 1979 and since then we never visited our land nor we knew that there was a sale deed. very recently we got the sale deed and we visited our land and we found that the KHATA was named after the sellers son. is the sale deed valid? can we cancel the present KHATA or transfer it to our name? since we did not visit our land since 1979 the sellers are telling that according to TENANTS ACT the land is theirs. Kindly suggest.
