Company threatening to send legal notice

Hi,

I joined this firm in the month of May 2015 and due to personal reasons had to quit in July2015. I couldnot serve the 3 month notice period, spoke to the HR and my boss and they accepted my resignation on the company portal. No one mentioned anything about the payment against the waiver of the notice period. Suddenly a few weeks earlier I received a full and final statement in my e-mail asking me to pay the company INR 87,000/-, I havent responded to any mail of theirs and now, with me in the CC the legal person of the company is asking the accounts team to issue me a legal notice.

I want to understand what are the legal implications, I dont want to pay them. Can you please let me know what are the possible implications? Can this turn into a criminal case? What happens if they serve me a legal notice?

Thanks
