Court Rules for Hari Over Harry Potter

A court in India has dismissed a lawsuit filed by Warner Brothers against the makers of a film called “Hari Puttar: A Comedy of Terrors,” the BBC reported. Warner, the studio behind the movie adaptations of the Harry Potter novels, had claimed that “Hari Puttar,” a film produced by the Bollywood studio Mirchi Movies, about a 10-year-old boy who moves to England, had a title that was too similar to its billion-dollar franchise about J. K. Rowling’s boy wizard. Mirchi Movies argued that Hari was a popular name in India, and that “puttar” means son in Hindi and Punjab. In dismissing the lawsuit the Delhi High Court said audiences could tell the differences between Harry Potter and Hari Puttar. “Harri Puttar” is scheduled to open in India on Friday.
