Does unwed mother have right to take child to another state

I have a friend who had a child out of wedlock in January 2010. Since then his mother and father have been looking after the child. The father and mother lived together for a short while and then separated. The mother now seldom comes to see the child and plays no role in her upbringing. She takes her out for a few hours or a sleepover at her house for a night once in a month or so. Both father and mother are made to share expenses for the child. Now, despite the grandparents looking after the child, the mother now wants to take the child and put her in a boarding school in another state.

The mother has played no major role in her upbringing. She rarely makes the effort to come and see the child except for a monthly sleepover which is also not done at times.

Does the father or grandparents have any right to prevent the mother from taking the child (in Bangalore) and placing her in a boarding school in another state. (Manipur).

Child was out of wedlock No divorce involved. Separated voluntarily.

The grandparents have no right to deny the mother the custody of the child.Only the father can do so,if she has abondaned him intentionally. But she can demand the custody of the child through the court.
