transfer 50% property to wife

I bought a plot couple of years back in my name. I now want to make my wife as joint owner. I understand that i can make a gift deed to transfer 50% of the property to my wife. I have heard that there are complications involved in making a single khata with this process. Is there a better,simpler way to have my wife as joint owner of the property.
