passive euthanasia (withdrawal of life support of a patient in permanent vegetative state ) was permitted to a person who was being kept alive only mechanically, through life support systems and had been in that condition for many years - Decision regarding discontinuing life support system had to be taken either by the parents or the spouse or other close relatives, or in the absence of any of them, such a decision could be taken even by a person or a body of persons acting as a next friend including doctors attending the patient - However, injecting a lethal drug to a person who was being kept alive only mechanically, through life support systems and had been in that condition for many years remains illegal - Petition dismissed.
