BACKGROUND

The internet world was left astounded when this case came before the spotlight. A woman in Punjab moved to the High Court in Chandigarh for legal actions against Prince Harry Middleton for not fulfilling his promise to marry her and she even demanded for an arrest warrant against the Duke of Sussex. Prince Harry married the American actress, Meghan Markel in the year 2018 and they gave birth to son Archie in the year 2019. This topic trended on the internet for its sheer bizarre nature and outrageous claims.

OVERVIEW

The present petition (CRPW 3347/2021) was brought before the high court of Punjab and Haryana at Chandigarh when surprisingly an advocate and appearing in person, Ms. Palwinder Kaur alleged that Prince Harry Middleton of United Kingdom had promised to marry her and did not do so. She demanded the police cell in UK shall take action against him and she also wanted an arrest warrant to be issued against him so that there will be no further delay in their marriage.

The court was held through virtual meeting and after hearing the petitioner the court decided that This petition is nothing more than just a day dreamer's fantasy about marrying Prince Harry the court also criticized the petitioner for a very poorly drafted petition both grammatically and lacking the knowledge of pleadings.

WHAT WAS HELD BY THE COURT?

The court observed that the petitioner is making such claims on the basis of email conversation held between her and someone claiming to be Prince Harry. And the petitioner never actually met the owner of that account. All the conversations were held through social media and a careful perusal of annexure P1 to P3, which are the printouts of these conversations, it can be clearly observed that these are not true copies and some portions have been deleted and erased. The court also held that it is a well-known fact that there are many fake ID is created on various social media sites and such conversation cannot be relied upon by this court as it does not prove to be authentic. There is a plausible possibility that the so-called Prince Harry may be sitting in a cyber cafe of a village in Punjab. The petition was dismissed stating that the court finds no ground to entertain such petition and it can only show its sympathy for the petitioner for believing in such fake conversations.
