Dear Friends,
Hon’ble Chief Guest, the guests at the podium, organizers and young friends attending this program!
“Law @ Right career”… this topic reminds me 16 years back in time when I was a 12th Pass out like you. Exploring various streams for a career. Ultimately, opted LAW and I can say that I made a wise decision. In the competitive world, I consider it a “Safest” option.
It is more relevant in the modern era of specialization. More you specialize, more you are in demand in world. Law is specialized stream and it give more avenues to specialize in a particular stream of law. No matter, how much crowded it is but “there is always room at the TOP”.
Before you step forward you need to know that LAW is basically “Broad rules and guidelines” to govern the country, society, economics and business”. AND What do law graduates do? … Law graduates read, understand, interpret the LAW and give “ADVICE” to their client and present the case before court. It requires “Common Sense”, confidence, habit to read and will to prove a point.
The avenues available to a Law graduates is of three types.
1. Government
2. Corporate (Private and Public sector)
3. Private Practice.
Government offers to become a JUDGE by “Civil Judge examination” at state level. Currently, there are 39 Post got published this year in Madhya Pradesh and In Chhatisgarh there are 39 posts being advertised this year. Statistics say, there are 3000 vacancy to be filled in Lower Judiciary in the country. So, becoming Civil Judge is a very good opportunity. Another Govt. Sector Opportunity is Asst. Public Prosecutor (APP) who act as Govt. Advocate at the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate courts. Govt. advertises the vacancy for APP on regular intervals.
Big corporate Houses and MNCs also appoints law graduates to take care of their legal work like contract management, litigation management, taxation, regular advising day –to-day affairs, briefing to Lawyers, Legal Strategic planning , statutory & regulatory compliances etc. The entry level is usually at “Legal Executive” level. The Growth path takes from Legal executive to Sr. Legal executive, then Asst. Manager-Legal, Manager – Legal, Dupty General Manager – legal and Vice president –Legal is the hierarchy in a typical company. It depends of the size of the corporate. At the entry level today, a law graduate gets 4 to 5 lacs and which keeps on growing depending upon the experience, knowledge and performance. Statistics say that there are nearly 1500 vacancy get advertised every year in corporate sector of various level in the legal division.
Currently Banking, Insurance, Telecom, Real estate, Energy Sector, Stock Companies, Financial sectors, factories, media houses etc. offering good opportunities.
Another sort of opportunity comes as joining law Firms as Junior Lawyer. Law Firm culture is more prominent in Metro city like Mumbai, Delhi, Banglore. They offer 5 to 7 lacs package per annum at initial stage. Some prominent law firms is Amar Chand Mangal Das, Luthra & Luthra, Khetan & Khetan etc.
Legal Procession outsourcing (LPO) is another opportunity for law graduates where people having command over legal English language and drafting skills get in-house work opportunity. Mostly, these LPO are situated in Metros, Pune, Gurgoan and work in Shifts.
Legal Consultants is another sector where experienced legal professional having specialization is a one particular sector work a retainers/ in-house advocate/consultants with corporate. Compensation depends on Nature of work and size of the client. Teaching & research is another avenue for those who pursue LL.M. and become law associates, Asst. Professor in the Govt. department and colleges.
“Private Practice” is a open field where sky is the limit. It take time to settle and establish the name of a lawyer but once society starts recognizing the “Name” of a lawyer then it brings a lot of monetary gains for individual. It brings self-satisfaction and freedom to work on one’s own wish. It requires a patience and hard work at initial stage but it could be highest rewarding in long run. Ares like service matter, family matters, consumer protection, Human rights, Electricity, Labour, Constitution matters etc …the scope is endless. One need to undergo live training with a SENIOR to get along with the law.
So…. ..It is a small introduction about the opportunities in the field of law what I have understood so far.
My best wishes to all of you for your career ahead and thanks for your patient hearing !
Regards
Ambrish
