2G: Wives shop while husbands are in jail

2G: Wives shop while husbands are in jail

'Ab to these guys have gone in, let's go have coffee..and then we can shop at Saket Select City Walk'

You would notice nothing out of place in this conversation till you're told that the protagonists in this conversation are wives of the 2G scam accused, and when they say 'have gone in', they are referring to the corporate executives and their husbands going inside the Patiala House Court lock-up to be ferried to Tihar Jail.

The world at large may think that the CBI and the judicial system is finally bringing to book the 2G accused but the mood in the court room throws up a slightly different picture.

All family members arrive in court every day. It's their chance to spend some time with their husbands/fathers etc outside the restrictions of the jail. But for two Mumbai based corporate executives the court proceeding seem to be a full fledged family reunion. The entire clan of these two accused have been parked in a five-star Delhi hotel for almost a month now. From wives to sisters to sister-in-laws to brothers to uncles, you name it and all possible relatives are there. They arrive in court every morning, the Versaces, the Jimmy Choos and the Pradas firmly in place. Lawyers argue, reporters jostle for space but for this group, the court time is for chatting up with the accused, sharing jokes, kissing younger members of the group by way of blessing them and yes, not to forget, even to present flowers and gifts to each other. One corporate executive was seen handing over a huge bouquet of flower to his wife in court - making up for being away from home for so long, one guesses.

At lunch break, the activities of this group of 15-20 family members, attracts more eye balls than even the high profile accused themselves. Chairs are laid out in the lobby outside the court room, out comes the Khan Chacha rolls (for the uninitiated they are the best rolls in Delhi, sold at posh Khan Market joint of south Delhi), the home made sandwiches and some times elaborate three course meals. Reporters strolling about are also offered a bite or two.

Picnic over, it's back to the courtroom and back to applications like 'my lord please allow my client to get fresh set of clothes from his house.' For once Judge OP Saini seems favorably disposed. Application allowed, day's proceedings over, it's back to 'Saket Select City Walk'. And why not, because next day brand new cargo pants and T-shirts are whipped out of branded bags, the price tags clearly establishing that the clothes indeed are for people who could afford to pay 200 crore as bribe.

...'the accused and their family is suffering even without being pronounced guilty my lord'

Did some one say??
