Ancestral property partition

Hi,

In My Mother's family there are five daughters and one son. We have a land that has earned by My Mother's grand father but he is no more. When my mother claimed her share her father and her brother did not agree. My Mother has married in 1988 and having two children. Now my questions are below...

1) can my mother claim her share in that ancestral property?

2) we came to know that my mother's father has register his land to my mother's brother. But did not get patta. will it make any cause?
