auction of Gandhian artefacts

Mahatma Gandhi's trademark leather sandals and steel-rimmed glasses, as well as his watch, will be auctioned in New York on March 5, 2009. The items, along with a bowl and plate, were among the ascetic Indian independence leader's most important possessions. Antiquorum Auctioneers estimates the sale will fetch at least $20,000 to $30,000.
