Can an employer retain some amount from slalry

Hi,

can anybody help me in this matter, at the time of joining , my company retain some amount .they suppose to give that amount after three months probations period. I resigned after completing three months, now the employer not releasing my retained amount. legally can they do so?

Please help in this matter
