I have been a landlord for most of my life, I know that I as a landlord do not have the right to enter or search the rented premises without the express consent of the tenant.
I could send a notice, and if the tenant did not cooperate, I would need to take legal action.
What is the law for premises let out as PG rooms?
The landlady has let out a room for double occupancy. The keys to the room remain with the landlady as the room and bathroom need maintenance and cleaning.
Each of the two “tenants” has been allotted an almirah expressly for their own use.
The landlady has a spare/duplicate key to the almirahs.
Is the landlady authorised to open and inspect the almirah allotted to a “tenant” in the absence of the “tenant” and without the permission of the “tenant”?
It seems such an activity would be a breach of privacy and “peaceful enjoyment.”
Even if there is a signed contract that the landlady is allowed to inspect the said almirah, an actual search of the almirah would be a breach of privacy.
Any professional input would be greatly appreciated.
