Change of name from married name to maiden

Can I change name on my passport from Married name to Maiden Name ( which was previously there). I am separated and any divorce proceedings are yet to be filed.

1. Usually if marraige is not broken by way of legal divorce the passport authorities may not accept your contention to change your name, anyway try.

Change of name can be done anytime one desire there is no issue of marriage in changing name or sur name by a woman is she so desire. You have all other documents such as educational documents in your maiden name/surname and only Passport has husband's surname, that you can change back to maiden surname by giving newspaper publications with help of sworn in affidavit duly notarized. Passport authority will take these newspaper publications and affidavit as proof of change of name and will issue new passport with new name. Your marital status in passport records and name of your spouse in the passport can be changed only after getting decree of divorce from competent district family court.
