Contested--dismissed for default

I would like to know the meaning of "contested--dismissed for default". The petitioner filed case on the sixth hearing the case was dsposed with above said nature of disposal. Is it  because respondant did not appear for a single time during  the  hearing or the petitioner who intermitently appeard for the case? The purpose of hearing is EX-PARTE EVIDENCE. Please show some light on this.

Dismissed for default means that the petitioner failed to appear on the fixed date of court proceedings either in person or through its counsel. Even if it was case proceeded ex-parte, the responsibility of the petitioner to participate in the court's proceedings that was ignored or avoided hence the order made against the petitioner.
