Can an agriculture professional buy an agricultural land in gujarat ?

Hello Sir/. Madam.

I am Ph.D degree holder in agriculture ( horticulture) from Haryana agricultural university, Hisar.

I have been living in Gujarat since 2002 and have permanently settled in Gujarat .

I want to start my own agricultural based business like starting a plant nursery, growing flowering plants  and other agriculture related works. Is there any provision for an agricultural degree holder that allows me to buy an agricultural land in Gujarat to start my own business based on my agricultural education degree ? though I am not a native from Gujarat state .

Thank you

Dr Sunita Mishra

Local  State (Gujarat) laws apply to your query, consult a local prudent lawyer.

Only farmers can purchase agricultural land in States like Maharashtra and Gujarat and any person of Indian origin can purchase agricultural land in around Rs 40 lakh-Rs 8 crore.

Gujarat land law says: Agricultural land cannot be sold to non-farmers. If agricultural land is to be sold to others, it must first be made NA (non-agricultural). In which the government has to be paid a premium of 35-40% of the total land value.

you are not an agriculturist though you have obtained Ph.D in Agriculture, this will give you any rights to purchase agricultural land in Gujarat

Thank you so much Mr T.Kalaiselvan for replying.

From your reply I have understood that I can buy agricultural land in Gujarat on the basis of my education.

Is there any clause or point in the law that I can site to purchase the land? While purchasing I need to show that clause to the land owner or in the govt office as everywhere it says that only Gujarat farmers can buy land.

The concept of a "farmer" and academic qualification of "agriculture" are not synonymous or inter-cahangable as you have misconstrued.

Mr. T Kalaselvan, an expert on the subject has specifically opined that only farmers can purchase.........which do not include / befit your case.

Please correct me if I have misunderstood.
