Defamation

What is absolute privilege and qualified privilege under defamation? How will this privilege help an individual at any time if they made the statement maliciously, or if the statement is false?

Hello,

Absolute privilege means that the person who makes a malicious or false statement has the absolute right to make such a statement.  absolute privilege is given during judicial proceedings, by high government officials, by legislatures during legislative debates, during political broadcast or speeches and in between spouses.

Qualified privilege means that person who is suing for defamation shall prove that the person who is making the defamatory statement has made it intentionally or with malice.

So these privilege help even if a person has made false statements harming reputation of a person.
