Defamation for nri

Hello experts,

I received a letter from a relative of mine, in 2001, speaking ill about my wife while we were at Singapore. I was under the impression that over the years my relative has realised her mistake and is repentant. However, recently I came to know that the relative continues to hold the same views about my wife. I want to sue the relative but am based in London, while the relative is in India (West Bengal). Can I file a case in London or does it have to be filed in an Indian court (Haryana, where my wife and I have a permanent residence).

Appreciate your advice.

Kaushik

Pl. collect more evidence against the cheap relative who is trying to spoil your family.

Yes, the defamtion need to be filed within two years, if you have any evidence relating to it  recently, you can file. However, coming from london and fighting cases in India is no worth as indian courts are snail paced, you loose money and your valuable time. However, if it is of very sensitive nature, you can file this only in India.
