Delhi HC Judge resigns 4 months after appointment

Justice Neeraj Kishan Kaul, a sitting judge of the Delhi High Court, has resigned citing personal reasons.

The decision has surprised many as 46-year-old Kaul was appointed an additional judge of the court only four months ago on April 15, 2009.

According to official sources, the resignation letter dated August 27, 2009 cited “personal reasons” as the reason for Kaul’s resignation.

He said that he sent his resignation letter to the President yesterday.

He clarified that there was no other reason behind the decision. "I felt I was better suited for a lawyer's job and I never wanted to impose myself for the Constitutional post," he said, adding that he will be renew his practice in the High Courts and Supreme Court.

"I was appointed as an additional judge and my judgeship was not confirmed. So I can practice in Supreme Court as well as in High Courts," he said.

The 46-year-old judge had earlier actively shared the Bench with Chief Justice A P Shah in many important cases, including the ones on public interest litigation.
