Divine message

A result means an ending; arrival implies

another effort to become. The mind is never

at rest, it is always striving, always achieving,

always gaining – and, of course, always in

fear of losing. Can a mind which is caught

in endless becoming be aware of bliss?

Through effort and struggle, through resistance

and denials, the mind makes itself insensitive;

and can such a mind be open and vulnerable?

(J. Krishnamurti)

If one must accept the theory of mind being open and vulnerable then they cannot survive in this competitive world.  In this world, the Darwin's theory (survival of the fittest) applies better than the philosphy of Jiddu Krishnamurthy. We are living in a world of reality shows which have become rampant in our living rooms through Television where we are being conditioned to believe that Quality comes out of competition. Krishnamurthy is one such person who believed that competition means "passion" (Rajas).  And "passion" means hyperactivity of mind arising out of repressed s*xual desires.  People suppress s*xual desires because of various reasons of them the prominent one is social conditioning, the need to conform to the social values and norms set by the culture and traditions.  People do not have a way to get rid of their passion which gets channelized into other spheres of activity.  Passion creates the need to dominate and express power over others and prove their superiority in whatever field they are in and whatever task they have taken up.  The effect of this on behavior is the human being utterly lacks humilty. But Krishnamurthy did not believe that man achieves excellence through passion.  He believed that people achieve greater depths of creativity through silence of mind and thought, not through hyperactive mode of thought and consciousness which does not allow a human being tranquil and forever put him to activity (physical or mental) and impatience. All that hunch is treated by HR professionals in Corporates worldwide as the required personality trait lacking of which would have an impact on the motivation of employees and tendency to sit lazy.  But in Krishnamurthy's view it is a kind of sickness to remain active because of irrepressible desires and thought processes. So he commented "it is not a measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society" seeing the world that falls in the line of Darwin's theory of survival of the fittest.  People wonder "how if I am not competitive, from where motivation comes to me to perform and work"! The world of fools, stupids, idiots and scoundrels cannot understand what Krishnamurthy says. But I too believe Krishnamurthy is right.
