Does a person need a lawyer in mact cases

My Friend was involved in a minor accident. The other party was not injured but his bike was damaged, for which compensation was demanded. 2 cases were filed against my friend - one in the criminal court for rash driving and another in the MACT. His insurer was also marked as a respondent in the MACT

Question is: Does he need a lawyer to represent him in MACT. SInce he has 3rd party insurance and the insurance company is liable to pay, what role does my friend have to play there. The matter should be arugued by the insurer's lawyer. My friend is being represented by a lawyer in the criminal case, which is fine

Can anyone please advice

It is advisable to engage a lawyer to lead your own evidence to prove that you were not 'rash and negligent'. Insurance company will have itz lawyers but usually Tribunal recieves it better when the party comes forward with positive evidence to show that he was not 'rash and negligent'.
