Does law recognize a marriage with first cousin

Does Indian law recognize a marriage with first cousin, I am from South India.
I met and fell in love with my first cousin.
She is my mothers elder brothers daughter (Mother's brothers daughter)

We both understand that first cousin marriage is not a very good idea considering the medical issues that could occur for the offspring. But then we are understand each other very well and are truly in love with each other and this kind of marriage is happening (ie. cousin marriage) for the first time in the family so there can be no fear of inbreeding. Both our families agreed with this marriage. It's been a tradition in their village to get married with relations. Will these be legal ? Is there any other escape. ?

Is it possible to register this marriage..?

Yes. Section 5(iv) of the Hindu Marriage Act makes an exception when such marriages are permitted by usage or custom.
