Emails as proof in criminal case

Can e mail be produced as evidance or proof in criminal cases ? If not why ? Lawyers pl. advice.

It can not be a proof for criminal cases if it is his public id (yahoo/rediff etc) as anyone create id by his name and misuse.

If it is his official id that can be considered as a proof.
