What is the number of public servants in the offices/departments of central government and state governments? And what is the expenses on paying their salary and other emoluments ?
What is the number of retired public servants of Central Government and state governments ? And what is the expenses amount of their pension and other facilities such as medical etc. ?

Better get this question put by MP and MLA in Parliament and Assembly to find out the fincnaicl burden. Or write to the Chief Secretary of the State Govt. as to how many employees are in the Secretariat and their departments under them at all levels.Try from Maharashtra.

It is roughly around 38.76 lakhs are in central government alone according to 2001 census.
50 lakhs are in PSU's (central and state combined) alone.
Add to this state govt. and autonomous bodies (including central universities).
It will be around two crore employees (maybe more), ie. around two percent of total population.
