Inter caste child

Sir,

can anybody please tell me, if a child born of a married couple where the father is general caste and the mothere is SC can claim caste as SC. If the answer is 'no', is there any way for that child to get the caste of his mother i.e. SC by any affidavit or any other way?

determination of caste of a person is governed by customary laws and a person under the customary Hindu law would be inheriting his caste from his father and not from his mother.
