Justice Sawant's Defamation suit and the gargantuan amount of 100 crores damages awarded is a big scandal - legal, judicial, constitutional, political and ethical - all rolled into one. How can this fellow of a former Judge, Supreme Court, have the ethical temerity to lodge such a suit in the first instance. We have heard of great men, pained by unjustified scandalous attacks, suing the mischief makers if not able to totally ignore them, but they would normally demand only 1 Rupee compensation to vindicate their honor and nothing more. By his dirty money minded suit this fellow of a former Judge lowered the dignity of the judiciary in India as a whole and the civil court judge who awarded the damages seems to be more a culprit in this affair.
I wonder how this fellow of a former judge got 1 crore rupees or more to pay for the court fees. Or was the payment of court fee waived or postponed to favour him? Is it not beyond his means? Can any SC Judge earn and save Rs 1 crore by his honest salary or wages for his intellectual labor? More so, can any honest person of his status think of spending 1 crore for lodging a defamation case? Is there any conspiracy and connivance in the whole affair between big wigs? I feel it would be good if any courageous citizen of Pune or Maharashtra file a complaint against this fellow of a former Judge whether he has amassed assets grossly disproportionate to his honest and legitimate income.
Also it raises grave doubts whether the lower judiciary including the High Court is acting true to its salt.
