Legal advice

I was working at a institute as doctoral research fellow( PhD), under 3 year contract. The Phd fees was waived off @60000 PA. I was not bonded in any way in my first offer letter.

Later the contract was revised and I was asked to pay the phd fees waived off so far, if I break the contract @ 60000 per annum . My salary was increased by a marginal amount in lieu of that I have signed the revised letter of contract.

After working for more than 2.5 years,I have given 1 month notice and left the institute on 6 feb/2012.

I have pleased the institute to convert my Phd in part time as I would not be able to continue the contract due to personal reason, which is as per UGC rules.

Institute has now given me legal notice to recover the phd fees of around Rs 155000 charging a interest of 15 % per annum.

kindly suggest me what to do?
