Mandatory reporting of elder abuse

Senior Citizens are abused by their children, public, owners of Old Age Homes, Nursing Home authories etc.

They are abused as they are defenseless, vulnerable, weak, immobile, and suffer from impaired memory.

Abuse could be physical, financial, neglect, verbal, intimidation, coersion to hand over property etc. Is there any mandatory reporting requirements of such cases of abuse? If yes what are they? If not, should we have them in place? For example is there nay law asking Old Age Home Manager to report cases of elder abuse - if yes who should be informed and how? In the west this is common practice.

As far as abuse by children are concerned; I, may advise you to file application u/s. 125 of the Criminal Procedure Code, 1973, for maintainance of their parants. Rest of the abuses are social and will have to be faced with the aid of NGO (Non Government Organisations)

Thanks for yur suggestion. Another alternative for securing financial maintenance from children who neglect their parents is to approach the tribunal set up in the district of your residence under Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act. This is faster, no lawyer is required and any Senior citizens Association of AGED CARE NGO can help. I am more interested in other types of Abuse - Neglect, verbal, ill treatment etc (softer issues).

Under MWPSCA Rules, Every police station in AP is supposed to maintain records of lonely senior citizens; maintain records of crimes against older persons separately, send a monthly report to DSP etc. This is internal mandatory reporting within ploice department. Anythinfg from public to govt authorities?

As we do not have any mandatory reporting regulations, what are the alternate redressal sstems available?
