MARRIAGE WITHIN SAME GOTHRA AND SURNAME

Page no : 2

Surnames cannot decide the proximity or distance in relationships. My cousin was married to his own aunt (first cousin of his mother). My cousin's surname is Kolaka and our aunt's surname is Mandangi. Some people of surname Mandangi were married to them who are with surname Kolaka. So, the parents of the girl and guy thought that their surnames match each other and it is right to perform the marriage of both.

in this case there is no legal bar to a legal marriage.

Do you really think that it is really necessary to mind about surnames and gotra names in the era of intercaste marriages and widow re-marriages? Marriage within same gotra doesn't amount to incest. Police do not file incest case on them who marry within same gotra. Only the marriage of couple having proximate relationship is considered as incest.
