Hi Experts,
I wanted to know is there any validity for an affidavit of name change.I'd got one done for my wife around 9 months ago, now I wanted to put an ad in the paper for name change as she requires a passport. Can this be considered as valid.
Please suggest what needs to be done.

If the affidavit was duly attested 9 months ago then it is still valid and if it was blank an it is to be used now then its validity has expired.

It is valid and can be used for passport. You will get for mat of an affidavit in the passport appliction regarding change of name. You can use it.

Names change by affidavit is a permanant effect.

In Mahareashtra a mere affidavit is not sufficient. A gazette publication is necessary.
