Name change after divorce

I want to change my name as I am divorced now. Please guide me in following:

1. What is the procedure?

2. How will the name change affect my bank accounts, credit cards, my property documents etc. What do I do?

3. How much time does the entire name change procedure take?

4. How do I ensure that name change does not affect me adversely at any stage in future?

Hi Geeta

The procedure to change the name is not very lengthy. You have to file an affidavit stating that you are changing your name from xyz to abc, mentioning other details like residence proof, other details. Then you have to make a publication in a local daily newspaper that you will be now called from the name abc. Further, your name will be changed and legally and you will be given a document stamped with the authority. You can show this document to the banks and other places wherever you want to change your name. If you could tell me your place of residence, I would told you the authority to bi visited also. For more clarifications, you can write to me at mittaljets@gmail.com
