Need of advocate simply to adjourn

it has become the order of the  day in lower courts to indefinitely adjourn cases, due to large number of cases and other reasons. In case dates when only adjournment and nothing else is going to happen, is it necessary for advocate of complainant/accused to be present in court ? Is the personal presence of complainant/accused enough on such dates ?
