nomination for fd

hi my aunt left me a fd with my name as nominee in the fd but now my uncle say's that nomination doent mean i can take the money but only the legal heir can take the money from the fd!? so pls clarify im the nominee on the fd but im not the legal heir as my uncle is the legal heir so who can legally take the money???

p.s(the fd is with me at my house and my uncle is askin for it so wot can i do ???)

Nominee is only trustee and you cannot own that money.Legal heir is entitled for that money.

The nominee is just a trustee and cannot owe the money. The nominee is liable just to collect the money and to distribute it amongst the legal heirs. In your case, you cannot be the owner of the amount of FD. Your uncle would get the same even if you have the original FDR..

Bank can discharge its liability in the premises of Agent - Trustee relationship.  Only nominee will be eligible.
