Payment for "meal break"/ "rest periods", under Shops & Establishments Act

Dear Members,

The Shops and Establishments Act makes provision for the maximum hours of work permitted per day and per week in respect of employees.

The total spread-over per day is not to exceed ten and a half hours. This spread over may consist of a half hour period of rest following a five hours work period.

My question is: does the Act require the employer to pay for the period of rest? For example: if an employer enagages his employees on work for nine hours each day (for five days a week) - and the lunch break (rest period) is a one hour break each day - then is the employer required to pay for this one hour lunch break?

I will greatly appreciate your inputs on this. Thank you.

it is employer duty to pay for the rest period as if the act states " person not to be engaged more than 10 hours of work which includes the rest period that to be considered as full wages regards ram
