Police verification for upsc (urgent)

My elder cousin is selected for main exam (upsc this year), he filled form with attestation form of UPSC needed for police verification.

The problem is:

Four years ago in July'09, one of his friend accused him for fraud of Rs. 1 lakh. Though his friend didn't registered an official complain. The local police called my cousin and asked about the allegation he confessed and next day paid Rs. 1 lakh to his friend himself through check into his Bank account. Police took statement of my cousin and his friend (saying that they want to match their allegations and information).

After then, police let him free (means called him at morning 11am and after signing statement set free to home at 6pm). Then never called for any more information or any query to police station or court or never visited home for any further investigation or query.

My elder cousin confused what to write in attestation form in Yes\No about the incident.

Can you please help?

Thank You.

Thank you for urgent response,

So its was not a detention? And Very question regarding to If detained, arrested, prosecuted, bond down, fined, convicted, debarred, acquitted etc -  should be negated?

None of the categories covers ur friends scenario. Detention is something very different. What happened with ur friend is what many police station officials commonly do to settle disputes between parties so as to avoid registration of FIRs and save them selves trouble.

Wish ur cousin good luck for the exam.
