It is well known that it is in the civil matters that after the death of a person, his/her legal rights/liabilities devolve upon the concerned legal heirs. However, in criminal matters, it generally ends with the life of the deceased.
In criminal matters, the concept of locus standi is deemed more strict and only those directly connected to the event are allowed to play crucial participative roles. However, I believe in some cases which would give any legal heir a reasonable cause, such legal heir can indeed file a protest petition, only with the due permission of the Hon'ble Court, though.

If the matter goes to court or if the matter gets published and if what becomes public knowledge affects or is likely to affect the reputation of the dead person, his/her heirs can seek remedial action.
