Query on tamil nadu registration of marriages act 2009

I am a Hindu and married a Christian girl early last year. With the little understanding of the options we requested an Advocate to help us in getting married under the Special Marriages Act 1954. However he suggested it can be very easily registered under the Tamil Nadu Registration of Marriages Act using the Suyamariyathai Marriage. Hence we obliged to his suggestion and with his service registered our marriage with the Sub-Registrar under the TNRMA 2009.

We recently came to know that in October 2014 Madras High Court has given a judgement that such a Suyamariyathai marriage registered under this Act is invalid and the marriage certificate has no value.

Though we are happily married we would like to ensure the validity of our marriage. Kindly suggest what can be done to confirm this is a valid marriage?

Thank you!

The simplest option is to register your Marriage again under the Special Marriages Act, 1954.

Yes, you can go in for fresh registration under special marriages act even now.

Thanks for the replies. Registering again would change the date of marriage to the date of new registration right? we have been married for 1.5 years and very recently had a kid. It wouldn't make sense to have a new marriage date. Is there an alternative to this? Or can I somehow show during new registration that we were already married? Thanks
