Record keeping by courts

Are there any set/prescribed time frames for keeping the records by courts, like district court and high courts. Say for example during the process of hearings for a particular case, lot of evidences/statements are submitted by rival parties. Once the case is disposed off what happens to these documents? Does court keep them or gives away to the parties? If court keeps them can a person, alien to the case, obtain a copy of these documents? How long these documents are archived and preserved by the court (District/High court).

I am interested in obtaining a copy of Govt memo submitted in Andhra High court in a particular case taken place about 20 years ago. Thanks for inputs.

Dear Querist

there is a record room in every court and the main work of record room is to safe the record, there is no time limit, you may file an application for certified copy of the documents and get the same, if avaliable....

Consult a lawyer and apply for a certified copy of the document you desire to get from a particular case by filing a third party affidavit if you are not a party to the case.  Your lawyer will take care of  the procedures to be taken care of in this regard.
