Research assignment

Can government employer assign or

compell a government employee to get

involved and work in a research work which is not his regular duty work as per jobchart?

If he works in such research, can he be

liable for any ethical issue of research

which is carried out by third party?

The employer cannot force an employee to do the work which is not related to his profile or not applicable to his nature of work.

The employee can very well protest and refuse to carry out the forcibly assigned task terming it as an illegal order and can make a representtion to the higher authorties for rlelief

Thanks for the reply. The question is that in the job duties and responsibilities, there's always a clause stating that the officer must do any work assigned by authorities besides the list of duties.

But the serious aspect of research work is that there is an ethical guideline of hon supreme court to be followed and the responsibility is of principal investigator and team. Whereas if other person who is not member of the research team and get involved in the research, there can be his liability which may arise during research.

If the assignment is not possible and involves risk to your employment,  you may make a representation in writing to your employer venting out your concerns and request to relieve you from this project owing to the factors that may affect the project as well as your career since your skill and competence may not be sufficient to handle the assignment. You can send your representation in writing to the competent authority through proper channel and exhaust the remedies within before planning to escalate the matter through legal sources.
