ROLE OF LABORS IN GROWTH OF COUNTRY

India’s labor regulations — among the most restrictive and complex in the world — have constrained the growth of the formal manufacturing sector where these laws have their widest application. Better designed labor regulations can attract more labor- intensive investment and create jobs for India’s unemployed millions and those trapped in poor quality jobs. Given the country’s momentum of growth, the window of opportunity must not be lost for improving the job prospects for the 80 million new entrants who are expected to join the work force over the next decade....

This is very attractive words but what is the reality.....??????

The reality is labour continues to be exploited. Labour movement is strong in the government sector and the organised sector. But the trade Unions themselves have become power brokers and they are corrupt, leading to conflicts within. As far as unorganised sector is concerned, it is total exploitation and lack of quality consciousness on the part of the employers. By permitting contract labour to avoid labour regulations, efficiency of the workers is sacrificed,  which directly results in lack of quality in production. Since Indian population provides a big market for any goods, especially consumer products, the manufacturers market the same and make profits. The Labour protection is one aspect and Efficiency levels is another. What the government should do is to protect both by pruning the existing laws as  single Labour Code which will protect labour and improve the quality of production for distribution in the market. But in reality  nobody will be willing to do it because STATE survives on problems of citizens rather than any bringing solution to it.
