Dear Members,
Can a lawyer (a member of the bar council) represent his own family members before a Court of law?
Do the rules laid by the Bar Council of India prohibit a lawyer from representing his own family members before a Court of law?
Is there any judgement/citation of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India which prohibits a lawyer to represent his own family members before a Court of law?

If there are no legal conflicts of interest, the mere fact of being related doesn't prevent a lawyer from representing a relative. I think there is no problem.

I have not come across any such provisions under the Advocate Act or the Rules of the BCI, ecept that an advocate shall not personally engage in business but can be sleeping partner in business which is not inconsistent with the dignity of the profession.
