This joke reminds me the story of death of "Panini", the father of Sanskrit grammar, that I have heard from Professors of Sanskrit:
Seeing the lion the pupil of maharshi Panini raised an alarm – ‘Gurudev, Vyaghrah aayati’ (gurudev, lion is coming) .
Panini applied his grammatical mind and indulged into the analysis and meaning of the word “Vyaghra”. He interpreted that ‘ vishuddha rupen ghranayati sa Vyaghrah’ = ‘That who smells accurately, is called the lion’. He also thought that this animal will do nothing except smelling. While he was indulged in the grammatical interpretation, the lion killed him!
