Small help for a friend

Hi all,

My Dad's friend is working as priest in a temple. 20 years back he got married. The girl wanted him to move elsewhere and he rejected. After 3 years of marriage, with the help of panchayat and police station, they were seperated. Yes, they had a boy kid. After seperation, Mom took the kid and that ended the story.

The priest did second marriage and registered it legally. It's been 15 years now and he is having a kid for his second wife.

Now the problem is, after this long gap, his first wife sent him a petition saying that she need some maintenance just because the first kid has become major and she need money to keep running. Is this really valid?

He has got all the proofs and witnesses about the seperation. What step needs to be taken?

His first marriage till subsists as police or panchayat can not grant divorce. A major son can not claim maintenance.

First wife can file a case of IPC 494 biagmy against the husband where in when convicted he would land up in jail , as husband cant marry without divorce .

If the child is a major above 18 yrs of age than she cant claim maintanence for the child and if the wife is not working than she can claim maintanence form the husband under HMA 24 , CRPC 125 .

Thanks for the response guys.

He didn't legally register the first marriage though. What i heard from him is, they signed in police station and they said its on stamp paper! The second marriage is legally registered. :/
