Society charges

I am staying in a society on rent. Recently my flat owner asked me to give a cheque in favour of society as one month's rent. Society has passed this resolution in their meeting that all rental flats should give one month's rent to society. My query is can a society demand this?

Yes. The society has right to demand such a payment..

You are not a member of the society but your owner is.

He has passed instructions to you to pay one month rent to society hence you can pay that and obtain a receipt for that so that your landlord do not claim it again from you.

Make sure that the landlord is also not demanding the payment once again.

Your landlord is bound by the bylaws of the society.

Whether the landlord has directed you to pay one month's rent to the Society ?

If so, you are required to pay to Society on behalf / account of your landlord otherwise the Society has no locus to ask for rent from any tenant.

What, exactly, is the resolution of the Society?
