special power of attorney

I need to send special power of attorney from US to India, after attesting the document from the consulate.

This is for property civil litigation. After it reaches India, is there any procedure to be done. Should it be registered

at the district registrar's office and pay the stamp duty ? Pls help me understand what else is needed.

Thanks,

kaala.

Yes ofcourse you have to get it registered at Registrar office and there is nothing else but be aware of the exhorbitant fee demanded by the lawyers since it is from USA and every citizen of USA is considred by them to be multi-millionare thereby their right to fleece them.Regards.

For representing a non-resident in a civil litigation, the power of attorney NEED NOT be registered. However, the power of attorney abroad should be executed on plain paper when it is received in India, the receiver/the Attorney holder has to be present it before the local stamp authorities for payment of stamp duty. On reeipt of this stamp duty, the stamp authorities will frank the document for the requisite stamp duty. The maximum stamp duty will be Rs.200/- (Mahrasthra).
