It shall be appropriate to get proper legal opinion from a very able LOCAL senior counsel of unshakable repute and integrity specializing in revenue/property/civil/DRT/SARFAESI etc matters before signing or making payment.

Generically speaking; until or unless there is some LOCAL law that lays down any such restriction as being contemplated by you in your query and the land/property in question is not given by some say ;award with attached conditions;

A general class person may be able to buy land as in the query.

Local counsels well versed with LOCAL laws and that have examined all docs/facts/inputs can guide you the best as per extent facts and docs related to the property.

As we all know some of the SC/ST class have converted to Christianity in India. Govt had also assigned them earlier some lands for cultivation under various schemes.  Therefore, prior to buying any such land/plot one needs to take help of local lawyer to conduct search for last 30 years and then decide appropriately. Generally there is no such bar on buying any Non agricultural plots from any Christian.
