Theft in a nationalized bank - professional gamng seems to

Dear Sirs,

It is a case of theft by an outside gang of professional criminals who diverted the attention of bank staff and took away Rs.5 lakhs . Though the gang members' movements are visible in the cctv footage wherein it can be found that the bundle of Rs.500 denomination is carried away in a polythine bag, unfortunately the cctv coverage is not captured the act of lifting the cash from behind the cashier's cabin . Cashier's negligence is not ruled out.

Now a complaint is lodged by the bank with the police and the police have collected the residential addresses of all staff members and their phone numbers. The bank management have not suspected involvement of the staff members.

Please clarify whether the police can summon the staff members including ladies, for questioning?since  the staff members role is official, is it necessary to summon them through the branch head officially? Can these staff members be called any time round the clock?  What are the the steps to be taken to cooperate with the police and at the same time receive proper treatment from the police free from harrassment . Please guide us.

Whenever there is bank robbery it is standard procedure to suspect the staff. Yes they may call anyone but certainly not at odd times. Once they get a lead that points to some other direction staff members will be relieved. It is your liability as staff to take appropriate steps to secure the assets. If cctv does not cover cash cabin it is as good as not having cctv. Managers and officers should have taken steps to rectify it.
